A recent show on Oprah focused on people who have followed their dreams; who have taken chances with their lives and found happiness. As I reflected on my life at P.A.R.I.N.T.S. and the dreams of my patients, I was touched at how similar our journeys have been.
We have taken a path that our heart led us onto. We have faced obstacles and yet have chosen to be steadfast in our pursuit. Our discussions have led us to consider that seldom is a desire placed in our hearts without a provision to fulfill that desire.
We have learned acceptance; I call it acceptance with “a little a” because we don’t always have the energy to do the “Big A Acceptance”. It seems that taking baby steps toward our goals is a much easier process.
When I look at our goals (and we both want the baby at the end of treatment) I realize that the journey may not be the most important part of our experience. Just maybe it is the wonderful people we meet on our path. Just maybe it is the number of lives that we are able to touch…. For if you ever doubt that you have touched our lives and changed us forever, just ask one of us.
We are on the same path and we want to hold your hand as you take this exciting and frightening journey; for we have gotten where we are today with the help and love of many.
